1978 Bay Area in the News

  •  The Oakland Raiders defeat the San Diego Chargers 21-20 in “The Holy Roller.” Oakland quarterback Ken Stabler fumbles forward intentionally as he is getting sacked and the Raiders recover the ball in the end zone for the winning score as time expires. The NFL revised their rules after the season to prevent this play from reoccurring in the future.
