1975 Bay Area’s Best

  • The 12,500-seat Concord Pavilion officially opened the outdoor venue in Concord, where icons such as Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan and Bing Crosby have all played.

  • The Golden State Warriors captured their first NBA Championship after a four-game sweep of the Washington Bullets.  Hall of Famer Rick Barry led the league in steals that season and forward Jamaal Wilkes received Rookie of the Year honors.

1975 Bay Area Firsts

  • Janet Gray Hayes was elected into office as San Jose’s first female mayor. Hayes was also the first elected female mayor of a US city with more than 500,000 people.

  • Industrial Light & Magic, the Academy Award-winning motion picture visual effects company, was founded by George Lucas.
