Catholic Charities Canal Family Support supports families, aging and disabled adults, and youth through social services and opportunities for healthy growth and development, like their Kids Club Afterschool program. They serve 130 youth in the City of San Rafael, working with children within the Canal community. They will use their 50 Fund Playmaker grant to help fund educational and recreational field trips and activities for youth in the Canal neighborhood, serving some of Marin County’s poorest working families.
Catholic Charities Canal Family Support recognized Carlos Garcia, Senior Program Director as their Playmaker. Carlos has been working with at-risk youth and emotionally-disturbed adolescents for more than 30 years, and is known for his dedication and compassion in helping children in the Canal neighborhood successfully pursue higher education opportunities.
“Carlos is very well-known and respected in the Canal community; his door is always open and he never turns anyone away who is in need of support,” said Katharina Mack, grant writer for Catholic Charities. “Under Carlos’ leadership and vision, Canal Family Support has grown and flourished, dramatically increasing the number of clients served. This isn’t a 9-5 job for him, it’s his calling.”
50 weeks. 50 grants. 50 opportunities to recognize Bay Area residents who are making a difference through their service to our community in celebration of Super Bowl 50. The 50 Fund’s Playmaker program was designed to showcase the real difference Bay Area nonprofits are making in the lives of our children, and people behind the scenes who are making that impact possible.
Every Tuesday, the 50 Fund – the legacy fund of the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl 50 Host Committee – will reveal a new Playmaker and share that nonprofit’s story of inspiration.
